The paper lantern was made through Adobe Illustrator with the pen tool. This paper lantern uses light modulation to create unique shadows and shapes. I decided in Adobe Illustrator to use the basic X and + patterns, but then I added some diversity by adding the isosceles triangle-like pattern on every other X or +. I then printed the lantern and then used a X-acto knife to cut the shapes and then bend them to make the unique shapes that they had. I then took a quick picture in a dark location of the paper lantern while it was flat. After taking some photos, I stapled the lantern so it would make a cylinder-like shape and I shined a lamp in different directions and places around and inside the lantern to make shadows as I was taking pictures. This is how everything turned out and I really like the unique shadows that were made during this light modulation project.
