Photography Final Reflection
As the year comes to a close, it is again time to go back and look into the past of all of my photography and reflect on each one. At the end of the school year, I believe that many great projects were done and many fantastic artworks and photos were made by both me and those in the class. The most important part of this reflection is to learn what I myself liked, how I learned/grew, how I used previous knowledge and skills, and which project reflect me most as an artist.
The most successful and probably the most fun project this year was the final project we had which was the light photography project. In this project we used glow sticks, flashlights, and etc to shine light in a completely dark room while someone kept the shutter lens open on a DSLR camera with the BULB setting. During this project, great images were created. This made it very successful, especially my light tunnel which was made with a ring of glow sticks going toward the camera. Not only was it successful, but it was very fun and one of my favorites because there were first ideas of what something might turn out as with different colors, angles, etc. but there was then the excitement of actually getting to see your idea put into reality as a light photo was taken. The mystery of wondering how your photo might turn out and how to improve it, expand on it, or learn from it was amazing.
Throughout the year, as new photos and images are being made, experience is also being developed. This experience can allow one person to grow and use their knowledge for future experiences. A project that most reflected that I grew was the surreal image. This is because I learnt the most about photos and photoshop from this project. The surreal image was an ocean and boat in a boxed-in room with cloud wallpaper. From this image I learned about custom brushes, distortion, and etc from a tutorial online. Due to this project I was also able to expand my knowledge from my first surreal image to a new and original 2nd surreal image that came from my own mind without a tutorial and only knowledge from my previous project. I incorporated all of my previous knowledge and more from projects other than the first surreal image to create a room with a war wallpaper and a boy with a game controller looking at the realistic wallpaper. This not only made a great surreal image, but carried a great message and used a lot of my previous knowledge that reflected me.
The gradient poster was a prime example of a photo that reflected me as an artist. Not only was it a photo that was edited in photoshop to gain certain color characteristics, but it was also traced in pencil and painted over to create a true gradient poster. As an artist one must not only incorporate only hand drawn art but also technological art to expand their mindset. This was a great example of both techniques combined. So this reflected me as a person who likes to edit photos in abstract ways in photoshop and also it reflected my artistic personality of liking to draw even though I might not like painting as much.
So as I reflect on what I myself liked, how I grew and used previous knowledge, and what reflected me as an artist the most, it is necessary to remember that all art must be carefully reflected on like this to improve oneself as an artist and person. Many great projects were done in this class and many creativity was reflected throughout the students in the class. As feedback though, it would be better to have projects have a specific enforced due date unless there is a specific due date and that there should be rubrics for each weebly post as to what to write so that there is no confusion. Other than that, I believe that Photography class was a great class to learn skills and improve as an artist and i look forward to expanding my portfolio in Art class next year.
