Throughout the year, many works of art and photography have been produced. The art and photography classes main goal was to make many works and then reflect on them to make oneself a better artist or photographer through trials, errors, and success. As I made took pictures and made multiple artworks on different programs, I reflected on these and asked if I learned anything helpful, what skills I used, and if I would ever want to re-visit the project to improve it. Out of all of my projects though, the ones I most reflected on and connected with were the Elements and Principals of Art project, Core Values and Beliefs poster, and the Realistic, Abstract, and Non-Objective photographs.
The Elements and Principals of Art project explained the elements of art and the principals of design. The elements of art are the basic building blocks of art and photography. These ingredients of art and photography were: line, shape, form, color, value, texture, and space. The principles of design though are the tools to make art and organize the elements by using: rhythm, movement, patter/repetition, variety, balance/symmetry, emphasis, proportion, and contrast. By using these elements and principles, it was assigned that I needed to take 8 pictures using each one of the elements and principles. Through taking these pictures of various things and matching them with elements and principles, I was able to learn these building blocks of art for future use in Photography and art works.
Almost every year, every student taking a digital art class makes a Core Values and Beliefs poster for the entire school by using skills in Adobe Illustrator. The poster is a display of the rules, expectations, and beliefs for the school and is meant to set a role model for students. Accompanying these beliefs on the poster, are colorful artworks made in Adobe Illustrator that might or might not relate to the school. In my project I drew the school logo and added in the values and beliefs. In order to actually produce these artworks though, certain skills had to be known or learnt. These included many skills learned in past years which included the pen tool. Using the pen tool, gradient, custom text, and many other tools, I was able to complete a very well constructed poster in my opinion, although I would go back and edit it to try and add a bit more detail and pictures in the background if I had the chance.
Another project that taught necessary skills for photography and art was the Realistic, Abstract, and Non-objective photographs. These photographs explained the difference between realist, abstract, and non-objective artworks. Realistic art is a visual art that shows and depicts realistic people, places, or events. Abstract art shows realistic depictions, but in a different way or different view by transforming the realistic object into an entirely new thing after altering the colors, shapes, or lines. Finally, non-objective artworks are arts that have no relation to anything realistic at all and are just created using the elements and principals of art. From this project I was able to learn about the difference between all these types of artworks and photos and, due to creating my own types through photographs, I was able to find out how to use filters to make realistic, abstract, or non-objective photographs.
After this year, I have learned many important skills and information in order to progress through my life as a photographer and even an artist. Learning these skills from projects like the Elements and Principals of Art project, Core Values and Beliefs poster, and the Realistic Abstract and Non-Objective photographs, I believe that they were necessary, fun, and resourceful for the future. In the future though when Semester 2 comes into view, I would like to explore more and different areas of photography. I want to learn more about light photography, forced perspective photography, the butterfly effect photography, and even more. So looking forward to Semester 2, I hope that I can learn much more and gain skills that I did not know about before to be a better photographer and artist.
