For this project, I took a picture of myself and pictures of a bunch of things that I liked or were important in my life and I put them into 1 background picture. So after taking a photo, I took pictures of my friends, my dog, my camera, my computer, my piano, a pencil, japanese sweets, some japanese letters, and a pencil and edited it to fit into the background. When editing, I had to completely edit out and erase the backgrounds of the pictures and then place them in the background where they might fit, I would then edit the hues or color and make it transparent if needed.
The paper lantern was made through Adobe Illustrator with the pen tool. This paper lantern uses light modulation to create unique shadows and shapes. I decided in Adobe Illustrator to use the basic X and + patterns, but then I added some diversity by adding the isosceles triangle-like pattern on every other X or +. I then printed the lantern and then used a X-acto knife to cut the shapes and then bend them to make the unique shapes that they had. I then took a quick picture in a dark location of the paper lantern while it was flat. After taking some photos, I stapled the lantern so it would make a cylinder-like shape and I shined a lamp in different directions and places around and inside the lantern to make shadows as I was taking pictures. This is how everything turned out and I really like the unique shadows that were made during this light modulation project. This project required two self portraits or "selfies" that were taken in a mirror or reflective surface. The first one created showed both my camera, and I in the reflection of a board in the school. Similarly, the second photo also showed both my camera, and I but instead through 2 mirrors |
