This project was based on calligraphy, especially by a pen. I decided instead to do Japanese calligraphy with a brush. I was able to get an entire set of tools including a brush (Fude), a brush rest, an ink stone (suzuri), and an ink stick (sumi). I had to do it without the paperweight, correct paper, and other equipment though. Writing Japanes Calligraphy is a very complicated process as pressure and strokes need to be applied in specific ways and in specific orders that directly correlate to the stroke orders of the kanji you are writing. This was very hard for me and took many tries to get it correctly and the finished product is not even close to perfect as well. A perfect calligraphy drawing would need years of practice. The red dot in the background is optional but the red stamp in the corner (usually on the left side) is a signature and should usually be put down to label the piece as yours. In my case it was 中 (naka) which is my Japanese last name. The word itself is 宿命 (shukumei) which means "fate". In my opinion I think this project turned out very well and I am now very interested in Japanese calligraphy itself for the art and kanji that is included in it.
